My Playlist

I am very excited to share a couple different songs from my personal playlist and a couple songs that I researched and very much enjoyed. I took inspiration from multiple different places outside of America and I am very happy with the results that I found. I hope you enjoy.  First I will be sharing with you a special piece from my Reggae playlist called "Toast" by the one and only Koffee. I have shared another song of hers on a past blog but I could not help but share this one as well, as it is another one of my favorites from her. I would say that this song is a traditional and a modern form of Jamaican music as it was only released in 2022 it has plenty of modern aspects to it but it also has a very traditional tempo and vibe that goes with it. Koffee is one of my favorite Reggae artists and her songs always put me in a good mood which is why I want to share this with all of yall.  The next song that I am going to share with yall is a traditional New Zealand song by C...

Music and Rituals

In my life I have had the pleasure of attending a couple of weddings in my life, although I was very young at every single one. I have been able to go to my dads wedding, my cousins wedding and my best friends sisters wedding, it is hard for me to remember all of the music that was played at these events due to how long ago they were but there have been a couple songs and moments that I can recall and would be glad to talk about in this blog. I have also been to a couple of funerals but I would rather talk about the better times I had at the weddings I have been to because I have not focused on the music that has been out on at the funerals I have attended. Plus my graduations have not had any fun music that I can talk about fondly, although my graduations have always been good and exciting for me.  The most memorable moment at my fathers wedding was when his best friend and my roommates dad Tyler went up and took the microphone, took off his jacket and loosened his tie and s...

Music and Family

For this assignment I had the opportunity to interview my mom and get her insight on the types of music she listened to and get her opinion on music nowadays and how it has affected her life and her as a person. I will be writing out the discussion we had instead of posting the video and I hope you enjoy getting to know mama Waters and what her opinions are on music. I learned a lot of new things about her through this assignment and I am very grateful that I now know how she feels about these topics  Me- What is your first memory of music? Mama Waters- I would say when I was in chorus in elementary school Me- What was your first experience with music? Mama Waters- Um, probably not I think your nana played a lot of Barbra Streisand when I was growing up, I can't remember if that was before or after chorus  Me- How did music impact your childhood? Mama Waters- Well I danced so it helped me have an outlet for exercise and for socialization because I did dance and is correl...

Music and Gender

It hurts me to admit this but I did not come from a very music oriented family life nor do I play any musical instrument myself. My family has always been more sports oriented and more intrigued with outside activities rather than the musical arts. My dad grew up playing tennis and football, he played both in high school but did not take it further than that but he was the men and women's tennis coach over at Limestone University. My mom was a dancer in her academic days and was very talented but was drawn to tennis in college where she was the manager of the women's team which is where they met each other. I played a lot of sports growing up including baseball, soccer, basketball and swimming but I loved tennis way more than the other sports so I fully committed to that when I turned 12-13 and I have been playing competitively ever since and have enjoyed every moment. My brothers also played tennis alongside me for a time but they branched out to other sports in hi...

Music and Me

Hello my name is Stanley Waters, I am a student athlete at the lovely Converse University. I have been a tennis player the majority of my life with very little musical experience. This being said music is still very important to my daily life and I actively listen to new genres and styles of music all the time. Wether it is to get me ready for a match or just to help the day go by faster, music is an irreplaceable component in my life and I have grown to appreciate all kinds of it.       I grew up in Charleston South Carolina where I moved around a lot going from Isle of Palms to Mount Pleasant to Berkley county and then back to Mount Pleasant. It has been a pleasure to grow up in such a history rich part of the state and country. I moved to Spartanburg to continue to to pursue my tennis career and finish my academic journey. I am glad to be here at Converse and it has been an absolutely wonderful decision that I made.     ...
